Shishimai means Lion Dance in Japanese. The lion dance originaly came from India, and the Buddhist belief that the lion is regarded as a guardian creature. We can see Shishimai dances in New Years, or any celebration in Japan, as well as?in China. These photos were taken by a Japanese photographer, TETSU, in Nigata, Japan.? You may feel the movement of Shishimai dance from his photos.

February 14th is Valentine’s day, and also Chinese New Years, this year. You may see Lion Dance if you live near China town (or maybe in China) very soon! If not, let’s celebrate Lunar New Year together with TETSU’s lion dance photos!!!
